NFL Championship Round Preview

Jaguars at Patriots

The Patriots come into this game as roughly nine point favorites, as there has been some line movement due to the Brady hand injury. He is going to play, that is a fact, don’t question it. The Jaguars have the number one rated pass defense in the league, so the question becomes, how much will they be passing the ball? We know the Pats have plenty of running backs to use, the issue becomes is who will see the majority of the touches? Dion Lewis has become their number one back, with James White chipping in plenty with the passing game. We should see Rex Burkhead active in this game, but given his health, and the other established roles, he makes a GPP option only this week. Brandin Cooks and Chris Hogan will be seeing plenty of Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye, the Jags two top corner backs, which should prove to be their toughest match up of the year. This could present an opening for Danny Amendola, since he runs out of the slot, and is coming off an 11 reception game last week. As always, Rob Gronkowski makes a fantastic option in any format, the only issue is getting up to his price, since there are limited options across the board.

On the Jaguars side of the ball, they will likely try to keep the Patriots offense off the field, meaning plenty of carries for Leonard Fournette. He is one of the top options on the slate this week, and if you have the salary, you should be rostering him. The Jaguars try and hide Blake Bortles in the passing game, but if the game script goes the way it should, the Jags will be down I this game and have to pass the ball to catch up. For their receivers, you should go to Marquise Lee and Dede Westbrook as the best options, with Keelan Cole as more of a GPP option. If you want to get fancy with your roster construction, you could do a Jaguars stack, hoping they can have a repeat of last week, along with getting them at lower ownership in tournaments.

Vikings at Eagles

This game will see two of the best defenses in the league square off, in what should be a lower scoring game, but still plenty of DFS options to go around. Case Keenum makes an interesting option at quarterback this week since he isn’t as expensive as Brady, yet still has multi touchdown upside. His price fits nicely into roster construction, and stacking him with either Adam Thielen or Stefon Diggs is a good choice. Yes, both receivers are facing tough matchups, but you will want some exposure to the Vikings offense, and they are good picks. If you want some value on the Vikings, look at Jarius Wright, who is their third string receiver and runs out of the slot. He is super cheap this week and also plenty of flexibility with your roster construction. The Vikings running game is also in a tough spot, but I still like their potential. If they Vikings are able to get up in this game, they should run the ball with both Latavius Murray and Jerick McKinnon, so both of them are viable this week. Don’t sleep on Kyle Rudolph, as he has been one of the more consistent targets for Keenum all season.

On the Eagles side of the ball, they are led by Nick Foles, making this a bit of a riskier play. I see him as the worst option at quarterback this week, which essentially lowers the value of the Philly receiving options. They have a very tough match up against this Vikings secondary, so Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and Torrey Smith are all GPP options for me. Zach Ertz should be the safest option for cash games on the Eagles, and has good red zone equity on this team. The running game should come down to mostly Jay Ajayi in rushing situation, LeGarrette Blount in short yardage, and Corey Clement in the passing game. The fact they have three players getting touches, makes it difficult to project their usage.
