NFL Divisional Round Fantasy Preview

Falcons at Eagles

We have a home town game for Flacons quarterback Matt Ryan, which lends itself as a nice storyline. If you are inclined to believe players have extra motivation in spots like this, then load him up in DFS. The Falcons are starting to get hot right now, and with redemption on their mind, they will look to grab the win on the road. The Eagles have a good defense, but are coming off of essentially two weeks, rest, which turned out to be the wrong call for the Rams last week. If the Eagles defense comes out slow, they will be put in a tough spot, since the Eagles are going to be led by Nick Foles. We have a small slate in DFS, so no one player is truly off the board. Going with Julio Jones or Devonta Freeman as the top options for the Falcons is the best bet, with Mohamed Sanu and Tevin Coleman as secondary picks.

For the Eagles, we know that Nick Foles will be leading them into the playoffs, which is surely one of the riskier picks this weekend. Their receiving options are in a good spot, since the Falcons have the 19th DVOA against the pass, the only question is how much do you trust Nick Foles? That is a huge question this weekend for many DFS players, and should be pivotal decision this week. When it comes to the Philly rushing game, they often have four running backs active, with Jay Ajayi seeing the majority of the work. Given the other options on the slate, not sure if I would go here for cash games. I think the play of the game for the Eagles is Zach Ertz. He has shown the consistency with Foles at QB, and has great PPR value in the offense.

Titans at Patriots

The Titans come into this game at nearly 14 point underdogs, and will most likely try and do all they can to keep the Patriots offense off the field. The projected game script is not in their favor, so they will try and deflate the ball and stick to the running game. This mean Derrick Henry is in a good spot since he should be seeing plenty of volume. If you are one to believe that the Titans will be down in this game, then their options in the passing game should have value. Corey Davis and Erick Decker are super cheap on DraftKings, so that will help with your roster construction. The play of the day for them should be Delanie Walker, as he is their best receiver, and most importantly, sees plenty of looks in the red zone.

The Patriots have an implied team total of 30 points, which is highest of the weekend. We know with the Pats, they are going to score, the issue is who will the offense go to? Rob Gronkowski is always a fantastic option for DFS, just an issue of getting up to his price. The news is that Chris Hogan will be playing in this game, which should decrease the targets Brandin Cooks had been seeing. Not saying Cooks isn’t a good play, just a slight downgrade. For the rushing game, Dion Lewis is looking like the go to option for DFS this week, as he will be seeing the majority of the work.

Jaguars at Steelers

This is a rematch of a week 5 match up, where the Jaguars came away with a 30-9 win. In that game, Big Ben threw five interceptions against what is the number one rated pass defense. This game has the Jaguars as a seven point underdog, and having a 16.8 implied team total, which is lowest on the slate. The Jags can win this game, which is a fact, it’s just a matter how it can get done. Will their offense show up, and how can their elite defense slow down the electric Steelers offense? Leonard Fournette ran for over 180 yards the first time they played, and we should be expecting more of the same from him here. They will force the run, and limit how many times Blake Bortles needs to throw the ball.

For the Steelers, it was announced that Antonio Brown is back at practice this week, but should be a game time decision on Sunday. This is huge news for their offense, but Brown will be seeing the Jags two top corners, Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye. This is a tough way to come back, but it’s the playoffs, and they need his best. In DFS, the choice at receiver really comes down to Julio Jones or Antonio Brown at the very top, and there is a case to be made for both. I personally give the slight edge to Julio, but that is just my opinion. This game will also feature a ton of Le’Veon Bell, so don’t shy away from him. He sees plenty of action in the running and passing game, but is super expensive. There is a case to be for fading him, since he limits your roster construction opportunities.

Saints at Vikings

This should be one of the better games of the weekend, as we have a great offense going up against a great defense. Ton of options on each side of the ball, so let’s dive in.

The Saints have options in both the running game and passing game, so don’t be afraid to roster multiple members of them. Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram are the two headed monster in the backfield and they are both good but not great plays this week. Ingram will see more of the running work, especially in the red zone, while Kamara is more middle of the field action. Michael Thomas, the Saints top receiver, will likely be shadowed by Xavier Rhodes, making this a tougher match up, but still a good play this week. Drew Brees has multiple touchdown upside, but is more of a GPP play this week for me, but should be rostered with full confidence.

For the Vikings, you should be considering all of their offensive weapons, since we know they can put up numbers quickly. Case Keenum, Adam Theilen, and Stefon Diggs are all in play for this week and could be a nice double stack. If they Vikings are projected to be up in this game, then their running backs, Latavius Murray and Jerrick McKinnon stand to gain from this. Playing the game script perspective of things could turn out to be the right call, since the Saints defense showed some weaknesses last week.
