NFL Fantasy 2018: Love or Hate Week 13

Spencer Ware - Kansas City Chiefs
The biggest fantasy news of the week broke on Friday when Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt was sent home from the team’s facility. This came about as the result of a video released by TMZ Sports of a February incident where Hunt is seen to push a woman and then kick her in the leg when she is on the ground.
With Hunt almost certain to miss Week 13 (and likely longer) this means that Spencer Ware moves into position as the lead back in one of the most explosive offenses in the league. The decision on Ware is an interesting one as he has proven to be more than serviceable in the past. I would lean towards playing Ware in this expanded role, especially as the Chiefs play a Raiders defense that has allowed the most yards in the NFL to opposing backs.
Here is the rest of the advice:
Love – Lamar Jackson @ Falcons
It didn’t take long for Jackson to find his way onto this list. Sure, he takes way too many hits for a quarterback and his style might not be sustainable in the NFL long term, but it will be a fun ride while it lasts.
Jackson was excellent from a fantasy standpoint last week against Oakland. His rushing ability is going to be maximized on the Atlanta turf, especially given that the Falcons are one of the worst defenses at containing the quarterback position in the league. Jackson’s floor is basically putting up QB 2/RB 2 numbers in one position, with his ceiling being through the roof.
Hate – Eli Manning vs. Bears
The Bears pass rush should being giving Manning nightmares in the days leading up to this game. While he has been hot recently, the Giants have just not been good at keeping Manning clean and he has been sacked at least four times in almost half of New York’s games in 2018.
This is going to be a problem when facing one of the best defenses in the league. Khalil Mack vs. Chad Wheeler is a serious mismatch in the Bears favor.
Running Back
Love – Gus Edwards @ Falcons
We are throwing Edwards name out here for a second straight week after he had an outstanding outing against Oakland in Week 12. It is easy to shock a team that is not expecting you in the NFL as Edwards did to the Bengals in Week 11, but the Raiders knew Edwards was coming and he still rushed for 118 yards on 23 carries.
Edwards has the advantage of playing alongside Lamar Jackson, a player who (as we mentioned earlier) is a walking mismatch. Jackson’s ability to run the ball gives Edwards more space than he would have in a more traditional offense, space that he is using to tear up opposing defenses.
Hate – LeGarrette Blount vs. Rams
It is always hard to recommend running backs going against the Rams. L.A. can score points in such a hurry that you never know when a running back will be taken completely out of the game by halftime because a team is chasing points.
It feels like Detroit will be in that position this week, with Matthew Stafford and the passing game being more likely to post up fantasy numbers than Blount, who is still deputizing for Kerryon Johnson. Just stay away from this one.
Wide Receiver
Love – Courtland Sutton @ Bengals
It is hard to say exactly why it hasn’t clicked for Sutton after Demaryius Thomas was traded to the Texans. That trade seemed to suggest that the Broncos thought Sutton was ready to immediately step into the void left by the veteran, eating up his targets and yards, but it hasn’t really worked that way as he has just under 150 yards total over the last three games.
This has to be the game where Sutton takes off. The Bengals have allowed 25 passing touchdowns (the second most in the league) and their offense figures to be much worse without the injury Andy Dalton at the helm. Expecting eight targets and a touchdown from Sutton doesn’t feel like too much here.
Hate – Jarvis Landry @ Texans
Landry just isn’t producing enough to be considered a viable fantasy play at this moment in time. With just one game over the last six when he has passed 40 yards receiving, Landry would have to be scoring touchdowns in bunches to make up for his lack of yardage. Instead, he has just one touchdown scored over that same period.
With less than six targets a game as Baker Mayfield focuses on his other options, Landry isn’t getting enough action as we hit the stretch run in 2018.
