NFL Fantasy 2018: Love or Hate Week 14

Leonard Fournette - Jacksonville Jaguars

Week 14 is here and it is time to decide on your fantasy playoff lineup. This is the second week at the back end of the season with no byes, so if your team isn’t clicking by this point there is probably no hope.

On the other hand, if your team is rolling then making the right call at a couple of positions could well be the difference between a fantasy playoff win or an early exit. Here are a few guys that we love and hate for Week 14:

Quarterback

Love – Aaron Rodgers vs. Falcons

Rodgers has a solid matchup this week against a Falcons team that has the ability to leak points in a hurry.

The main reason we are on Rodgers, however, is that it feels like the Packers are likely to go back to basics in terms of their offense with Joe Philbin filling the interim coaching position following the firing of Mike McCarthy. Going back to basics for the Packers almost entirely consists of Rodgers slinging the ball around to his weapons at wide receiver. This is going to be a good week for players with the Green Bay signal caller in their lineup.

Hate – Marcus Mariota vs. Jaguars

The Jags defense has looked like it was coming off of the boil. Then the unit went out and stoned Andrew Luck cold as Jacksonville beat the Colts 6-0.

Added to this pick is the fact that Mariota simply doesn’t play well against the Jaguars historically. It is hard to see that changing on a Thursday night where Jacksonville is going to load up and deploy a heavy running game attack against a defense working on a short week. The time of possession battle will also hurt Mariota here.

Running Back

Love – Leonard Fournette vs. Titans

It feels like Fournette is going to want to make a statement after coming back from his single-game suspension last week.

Fournette is a player who is always at his best playing with a chip on his shoulder and nothing is going to create that chip like the feeling the whole NFL is against him. The Titans have given up over 150 rushing yards per game over the last three games and a rested Fournette will likely see 25-30 touches as the Jags try to batter their way through the Tennessee defense.

Hate – Spencer Ware vs. Ravens

Ware was a trendy starter last week after the Chiefs canned Kareem Hunt. He was about as good as expected given his career trajectory; basically, he looked like a No. 2 running back playing the role of a primary starter.

This is a bad matchup for Ware against a Ravens defense that is one of the few in the league that still knows how to stop the run. The other big issue is that the Chiefs grabbed Charcandrik West off of the street, a player that is comfortable in the offense and who has started over Ware in the past. Don’t be shocked to see West pick up a half dozen or so key carries here.
Wide Receiver

Love - Courtland Sutton vs. 49ers

Sutton is here for the second straight week after we noted that he needed a big performance in Week 13 to be a viable starter down the stretch.

He picked up seven targets last week, converting them into 85 yards and a touchdown. If anything this week sets up even better for Sutton as he goes against a San Francisco defense that leads the NFL by allowing 19 touchdowns to wide receivers. In addition, Sutton will see more targets as the Broncos No. 1 option with Emmanuel Sanders missing with an Achilles issue. Start Sutton and watch the points rack up.

Hate – Alshon Jeffery @ Cowboys

Jeffery came back strong after an early-season shoulder injury with 10+ targets in each of his first four games back. Then his fantasy season fell apart.

In his last five games, Jeffery has seen the ball passed his way more than five times just once. The main reason for this is that Golden Tate has come into the offense and he is so good at getting open and moving the chains that he has destroyed the number of targets per game Jeffery sees. Add the Philly love of tight end Zach Ertz and you have a player who can’t be trusted in the playoffs.
