NHL DFS Picks January 5th

NHL is back and we are going to be looking at some DFS options for tonight’s slate. We have an 11-game slate, so there are plenty of options across the board and we should see plenty of scoring.

Also, always, always check to make sure the goalie you pick is confirmed as the starter. Nothing worse than making a lineup, and the goalie not playing. There are plenty of good sources on twitter, and websites where you can get that information.

Regardless if I’m playing cash or GPPs, I always have some stacks going in my lineups. In hockey, most goals are scored with assists, so we want to target players who are either on the same line, or on the same power play unit, or both. So these stacks will include both forwards and defenders while making sure they see plenty of ice time together.

Mathew Barzal, Anthony Beauvillier, Josh Bailey

Sometimes you can like a team for their upside, sometimes you like them for their consistency, other times you like them for what they do for lineup construction. This three-man Islanders stack is the last of those three options, as they are very reasonably priced across the industry and come in playing very well as of late. Barzal especially has been playing amazing, with a seven-game point streak, with a total 11 points in that span. Love seeing that type of production for a player who is under still under $7K on both sites, which should make him viable in all formats tonight. They are up against the Blues who come in with a 54 Corsi Against this season, which isn’t terrible, but they are still giving up over three goals per game. These three players make up the second forward line, with Bailey and Barzal on the first power-play unit, while Beauvillier is on the second power-play unit. They will certainly be one of the lower owned stacks on the slate since it’s one of the only games with an over-under sitting at 5.5 goals.

John Tavares, Mitch Marner, Connor Brown

This stack is the first forward line for the Maple Leafs, who are at home and come in as -250 favorites where the over-under is set at 6.5 goals. Anytime the Maples Leafs are on the slate, I’m looking to get a bit of exposure to them, simply for the fact, their upside is massive with their potential scoring upside. Adding Brown to the stack is certainly going to make your lineups a bit unique, since he isn’t on either power-play, so you are limiting your potential points in a sense of things. But, he is under $4K on both sites, so you take a massive amount of savings, which will help you pay up for another stack, along with still having exposure to Tavares and thus Matthews on the first power-play unit. If Brown is able to fall into an assist for simply being on the ice with Tavares and Marner, he will crush value.

Tuukka Rask, Goalie Boston Bruins

The Bruins come in as -200 favorites at home versus the Sabres, who will still be without their top player Jack Eichel. This puts Rask in a solid spot to come away with the win, making him the ideal cash game option on this slate. The Sabres come in with a 53 Corsi For this season, which is seventh lowest in the league, meaning they don’t generate a ton of shots, so Rask shouldn’t be under too much pressure, which will limit how many goals he could give up. He’s expensive on both sites, but you are paying for safety with limited upside.
