Season Outlook

Once upon a time, the Ravens offense was among the league's best, with Joe Flacco leading the team to a Super Bowl as the Super Bowl MVP back in 2013. Since then, Flacco has underwhelmed, completing just 63.8 percent of his passes for a 21-21-0 record. Since Steve Smith Sr recently hung up the cleats, the Ravens have lacked elite talent at the wide receiver position and didn't boast much fantasy value through the air last year. The team did sign WR Jeremy Maclin in free agency this offseason in hopes to stretch the field more, but the team failed miserably at their attempts to commit to the run, averaging just 91.4 yards per game and 10 touchdowns. Terrance West was the team's leading rusher, totalling 774 yards on 193 attempts. The Ravens didn't necessarily upgrade at the position, however, receiving back Danny Woodhead will change the pace of the game and open up holes from the backfield for one of West or Lorenzo Taliaferro - whomever the starter may be - to rack up positive gains. Nevertheless, no Ravens running back is worth rostering on your fantasy team. As for the Ravens coaching staff, head coach John Harbaugh will return for a 9th season while offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg will continue to call the offensive plays and coach the team's quarterbacks despite the teams 2016 offensive struggles. If the Ravens continue to implement a zone running scheme and power run offense, the tailbacks will need to establish the run early in games and immediately improve on their rankings in rushing (29), third-down efficiency (21) and red-zone efficiency (19). Without any key additions to the offense, it's best to fade the Ravens entirely until the end of redrafts.

Player Outlooks & Draft Analysis

Quarterbacks

Joe Flacco Bust

In standard and PPR redraft leagues there's no real value in Flacco. While Baltimore revamped it's receiving corps this offseason, this is still a run-first team. Outside of 2-QB leagues Flacco should remain on the wire.

Lamar Jackson

It's highly unlikely that Jackson could unseat Joe Flacco to open the season, but head coach John Harbaugh has already talked about putting Jackson on the field with Flacco at times this season. By all accounts he looked solid in OTAs, and while he's probably never going to be the passer that Flacco is he should get a chance to flash his dynamic running ability early, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him get starts late in the year if Baltimore falls out of playoff contention.

Defenses

Baltimore Defense

The Ravens are yet another strong option in this top tier and one you should be going after if you can't get to first few. They are and have been one of the most consistent defenses in the league over the past few seasons, and we should be seeing the same this year. They have a new defensive coordinator, but he was the linebackers coach last season. Last season they had the 2nd DVOA vs the pass and the 9th DVOA vs the run. According to ESPN, they are returning 97% of the snaps from last year, meaning they had little to no change in their personnel. They led the league in interceptions, in the top-10 for forced fumbles, 11th in sacks, and 12th in yards per game. They always feel like a team who will never "burn" you with this pick and there is nothing wrong with that. In 2015, the average game the Ravens played in had over-unders set at 44.4 points, in 2017 the average over-unders were 40.6 points. Fewer points allowed due to better defense and the Vegas lines are showing it.
