Season Outlook
The Colts have underachieved the past couple of seasons, with a handful of exceptions on the offense. T.Y. Hilton led all NFL receivers in receiving yards during the 2016 campaign, receiving a dazzling 1,448 yards and six touchdowns. He's an elite WR1 and his quarterback, Andrew Luck's 283 yards per game was the league's fifth best mark a season ago. Luck will continue to be a reliable QB1 and will post his fair share of fantasy points throwing to Hilton and other young weapons. Luck's favourite red zone target last season was Donte Moncrief, as his seven touchdowns led all Colts receivers. Moncrief has FLEX or WR3 appeal. RB Frank Gore continued his consistent fantasy production, as he reached the 1,000 rushing yard plateau for the ninth time in his 12-year career. Entering his 13th year, some may believe his decline could come sooner rather than later, but drafting him is a must. He will also be involved in the passing game on screens and change-of-pace plays, but Gore will continue to see the lions share of the workload at the tailback position. The Colts' offense fits Gore quite nicely, as the zone blocking run scheme allows Gore to find the open seams and burst through them to pick up positive gains. TE Jack Doyle has become the starting TE and is a fantastic blocker, but offers minimal value in fantasy averaging 36.5 yards per game in 2016. with his Offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and head coach Chuck Pagano prefer to spread the field and dominate opposing defenses, as the team's total passing yards of 4,202 was tied for fifth most with the Pittsburgh Steelers among NFL teams It's safe to say, the Colts offense and fantasy players are poised for another big season. Stocking up on the Colts elite fantasy talents could lead you deep into the fantasy playoffs.
Player Outlooks & Draft Analysis
Andrew Luck Owning Luck this season seems like a move best reserved for those who aren't afraid of volatility on their roster. He could certainly return to being the fantasy stud of seasons past, but it comes with risk. The Colts have done a nice job of improving the offensive line, but the skill positions aren't going to wow anyone, and even if Luck remains healthy some young guys will need to step up for him to have a big season. |
Jacoby Brissett With Andrew Luck throwing footballs again it would appear that there's little fantasy value for Brissett in the near term. That said, Luck has played in just 22 NFL games since 2014 so nabbing his backup in deeper leagues probably isn't the worst move. He checks in as a matchup play QB in fantasy as a starter. |
Chad Kelly At this point the Broncos know what they have in Lynch so don't be surprised if Kelly gets the nod should Keenum miss any time. |
